On 20 June 2026 Carsten Knobloch wrote about DeviceShelf on Caschys Blog, the German tech blog he has been running since 2005. The article is in German.
Carsten goes through these points:
- The scan lists every connected device with its open ports and possible security risks. It needs no account, and nothing leaves the house.
- Devices are sorted into types such as router, phone, camera or NAS. A topology map shows which device is connected to which switch port.
- Ping, traceroute, a speed test and a syslog server are built in.
- The optional AI works with Claude, GPT-4 or a local model through Ollama, using your own API key.
- Presence monitoring warns when an unknown device appears, and live throughput per device shows what is using the bandwidth.
When the article appeared, the mobile apps were still announced as coming soon. The iOS app has been in the App Store since July 2026, and the Android app is available as an APK from the download page.
Thanks to Carsten for the article.
