In his article on finding out which devices are on a network, Dietmar Engler of NET.THINKS compares Advanced IP Scanner, Angry IP Scanner, SoftPerfect and nmap. Since 4 October 2026 DeviceShelf is the fifth tool in it, in the German original as well.
The section points out what the other four don't do: DeviceShelf keeps a history and reports new devices. For IT service providers it mentions the server edition, which scans client networks around the clock and alerts by email, ntfy or webhook.
The section is marked as an addendum based on our information. Dietmar Engler plans to test DeviceShelf in one of his networks and then replace it with his own experience.
